An Introduction into the world of Shamanism ‘They still know what we have forgotten’ The Emerald Forest (Film)
It doesn’t matter what material I read or watch (‘wacky’ or mainstream) Shamanism pops up its head and says ‘here I am!’ And every time it does, my ears prick up and I’m interested.
Why is that?
If you talk to average person out in the street, they’ve never heard of a Shaman, let alone Shamanism, and I often hear myself explaining them away, very glibly as ‘kind of like medicine men’, to which they reply ‘Oh!’ and change the subject rather rapidly after raising an eyebrow, pulling a funny face and nervously looking the other way.
Why does that scare them?
To me, Shamanism is intriguing, it captures my imagination; from the outside it appears mysterious; its essence is almost indescribable, but above all I guess it conveys power. And, I have to be honest, that is also probably the reason I haven’t jumped in with both feet, as fast as I have with other ‘alternative practices’ - it’s called fear!
But, then we’re always frightened of what we don’t understand!
In my opinion it takes a person of courage to fully embrace this practice and meet themselves and life face on. You will find such people within these pages.
Having said that though, there are some very practical exercises everyone can take from Shamanism and incorporate into their life right now. Exercises such as Journeying (read my personal experiences of this in the Beginners Guide) and Trance Dance, both of which you’ll discover more about in the recommended web sites section.
The information contained in these pages is separated into two parts - A Beginners Guide which gives you a basic insight into Shamanism and the Resource Directory which is designed to take you on the next step, where you’ll meet experts in their field, the people for whom Shamanism is part of their everyday life. I hope you have as much fun as I have had in exploring their worlds!
